Introduction
This route combines the charm of the Falzarego Pass, the historical significance of the Great War mountains, and the extraordinary beauty of alpine lakes. It's an itinerary designed for those who wish to alternate driving, contemplation, and stops at the iconic locations of the Dolomites. The result is a dynamic and satisfying journey, capable of leaving strong memories at every stage.
The route
San Vito di Cadore → Cortina → Falzarego Pass
You set off in the direction of Cortina and take the road to Passo Falzarego, between the majestic shapes of the Cinque Torri and the Tofane. A scenic stop here is almost mandatory.
➤ Falzarego → Armentarola → La Villa
Instead of descending from the pass, one deviates towards Armentarola and La Villa, travelling along roads immersed in nature with wide and ever-changing views.
➤ La Villa → San Vigilio di Marebbe → Passo Furcia → Valdaora
The path continues with a series of ups and downs through soft and very scenic Alpine landscapes, until you reach Valdaora.
Valdaora → Lake Braies → Dobbiaco
Before Dobbiaco, it's worth taking a detour to Lake Braies, famous for the colour of its waters and the almost suspended atmosphere that characterises it.
Dobbiaco → Carbonin → Misurina
Returning to the main road, continue towards Misurina. Along the way, you'll encounter another lake that's worth a brief photo stop before reaching the celebrated Pearl of the Dolomites.
Misurina → Tre Croci Pass → Cortina → San Vito
After Lake Misurina, turn towards Tre Croci Pass and then descend towards Cortina, closing the loop by returning to San Vito di Cadore.
